Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to analyze financial information, create and maintain periodic reporting, prepare general and standard journal entries, maintain fixed assets, assist in annual budgeting, and prepare standard accounting and financial reports for management.

What You'll Do

  • Prepares and distributes monthly, quarterly, and annual financial information to the proper lenders/owners.
  • Maintains detailed accounting records and prepares monthly reporting for inventory homes.
  • Records and reconciles Balance Sheet activity.
  • Maintains fixed asset system, including posting monthly journal entries to record all depreciation(s) and amortization(s).
  • Prepares and monitors monthly accruals and adjusts as needed.
  • Reviews budget to actual variances and research journal entries for correcting account discrepancies as needed.
  • Performs bank reconciliations and wire transfers for deposit.
  • Monitors cash balances to ensure funds are sufficient to meet ongoing operational needs and provides timely updates to appropriate personnel as cash needs arise.
  • Ensures lenders payments, property taxes, and other taxes are recorded accurately and processed timely.
  • Reviews and approves assigned community, cap ex, and development invoices.
  • Plays a key role in annual audits.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by responding to requests from owners, business leaders, operations’ team members, and others related to financial reports, statements, and accounting related items.
  • Identifies opportunities and areas for improvement, and offers suggestions and/or implements procedures, processes, or tools that improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Assumes and performs other tasks as directed by any person authorized to give such instructions or assignments.

What We're Looking For

  • Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications as well as applications related to the specific position.
  • Demonstrated mathematical skills necessary to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, decimals, and fractions, and calculate percentages to complete financial records, budgets, and other fiscal reporting information.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database management, and property management (e.g., Yardi, Back Office (BO), Manage America (MA)) programs to complete required reports.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with superior attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate professionally and effectively to prepare and explain financial data to business leaders and managers, team members, internal and external auditors, and other business contacts.
  • The ability and availability to be at work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • The ability and availability to potentially work overtime as necessary.
